Goldeyes Back In The Win Column With Win Over Saltdogs

The Winnipeg Goldeyes snapped a three-game skid to add another “W” on the season with a 5-2 win over the Lincoln Saltdogs on the road.

Southpaw Kevin McGovern picked up his fifth win of the season last night, striking out seven batters while only allowing two earned runs in 7.1 innings worth of work. Ryan Chaffee fended off a comeback attempt from the Saltdogs in the ninth inning, picking up his 10th save of the season.

Kissimmee, FL native Shawn Pleffner lead the offence last night, driving in two runs on a single in the top of the ninth. The first baseman was also involved in one of the other three Goldeyes runs, as he was at bat in the third inning when Lincoln pitcher Derek Gordon through a wild pitch allowing Andrew Sohn to score. Pleffner would walk in the at-bat.

Reggie Abercrombie got the ball rolling in the first inning for Winnipeg, scoring Andrew Sohn with a single. Wes Darvill picked up the other RBI for the Goldeyes on the night, allowing Josh Romanski to cross the plate after hitting a single.

Riverside, MO native Derek Gordon would pick up the loss for the Lincoln Saltdogs, allowing two runs in seven innings of work. He struck out seven batters, allowing four hits.

The Goldeyes’ attention now turns to divisional rivals, the St Paul Saints. The two teams, who sit atop the American Association North Division, will face off for a four game weekend set starting tonight in St Paul. First pitch I scheduled for just after 7:00pm.
