MJHL Final Postponed

The Manitoba Junior Hockey League has temporarily delayed the league championship series between the Steinbach Pistons and Virden Oil Kings following the tragedy involving the SJHL's Humboldt Broncos.

Virden took game one by a score of 2-1 on Friday evening, though the teams haven't played since. Game two was supposed to be played yesterday, though it was postponed once the scale of what had happened in Saskatchewan was made known.

Kim Davis, the commissioner of the MJHL, issued a statement Saturday saying that the league does not believe that the game that was supposed to have been played yesterday should be played as scheduled out of the "deepest respect to the Humboldt Broncos organization, its players and parents, the SJHL and its member clubs"

Davis added that the playoffs will resume, but that the next few days will be "focused on mourning, supporting the SJHL and reflecting on the loss of life that we can’t comprehend at this time."

Game three of the series was originally scheduled to be played tomorrow.
