Norman Northstars hold awards banquet to close 2015-16 season

 

The Norman Northstars officially wrapped up their 31st season with their awards banquet Saturday night.

 

The awards given at the event were as follows:

 

Barry Patterson Most Popular Player – Hunter Halcrow

McIntyre Defensive Player of the Year – Conner Faulkner

McDonalds Offensive Player of the Year – Tony Apetagon

Most Improved Player – Braden Paulic

Terry Murray Most Dedicated Player – Lance Laycock

Best Defenseman of the Year – Dustin Parker

Cliff Duschense Hardest Worker – Tristan Galarneau

Top Scorer – Tony Apetagon

Top Defensive Forward – Tristan Galarneau

Rookie of the Year – Justin Nachbaur

Most Valuable Player – Keith Monias

People’s Jewelers Ring Award – Braden Paulic

 

The guest speaker for the evening was former head coach of the Manitoba Moose Keith McCambridge. The team also honored former coach Doug Korman for his two decades as coach of the Northstars and confirmed James Buchanan as head coach for the 2016-17 season, with tryouts to begin in late August.

Knights of Columbus track meet showcases athletic students

 

Thompsonites cheered hard on Friday as students from across the city gathered for this year’s Knights of Columbus track meet.

 

The annual event took place in the CA Nesbitt Area, with students from all seven middle schools participating in events such as shot put, high jump, distance running, and relays.

 

At the top of the leader board was Westwood School with 156 points, Riverside taking second with 131 points, and Deerwood placing third with 74 points. Rounding out the list, Burntwood School had 55 points, Juniper had 29, La Voie du Nord had 15 points, and Wapanohk had 6.
