On Sept. 9, Swan River RCMP received a report of a suspicious death on the Sapotaweyak Cree Nation.

RCMP responded immediately and located a deceased 21-year-old male on a community road. Officers secured the scene and RCMP Major Crime Services took carriage of the investigation.

Following an autopsy, the preliminary cause of death was determined to be from an animal attack. The type of animal has not been determined.

RCMP has notified Manitoba Conservation officials of the investigation and its findings.
