Catching the Northern Lights in Northern Manitoba

You don’t have to travel far from Thompson to find a good spot for the Northern Lights—but a little patience can make a difference.

Streetlights and building lights can wash out the display, making it harder to see what’s happening overhead.

Manitoba Museum Planetarium Astronomer Scott Young says getting away from that glow is a good place to start.

Young says give your eyes time to adjust, keep bright screens out of sight and dress for the wait.

Displays can change quickly, so a quiet sky doesn’t necessarily mean the show is over.
