MJHL Final Heads to Game Seven After Dramatic Finish

Much like last year’s thrilling postseason matchup, a Game Seven will be needed to determine an MJHL champion, as the Northern Manitoba Blizzard and the Dauphin Kings are tied heading into their final matchup.

After a quiet first and second period, Marlen Edwards opened the scoring with the first goal of the night. With less than four minutes remaining, Rylan Gage tied things up after finishing a slick pass from defenceman Naaman Hofer. A late boarding penalty gave the Kings a power-play opportunity, and it was none other than Hofer who sealed the game with the winning power-play goal.

Game Seven is scheduled for this Thursday in Dauphin at Credit Union Place. Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m.

Northern Stars Have Good Showing At Provincials In Winnipeg

The Northern Stars Volleyball team made up of girls from Flin Flon were in Winnipeg for volleyball Provincials this past weekend.

The Stars had one of their best weekends so far this season and went 3-0 in the round robin to finish first in their pool.

That would get them to the play in round and they beat the Impact 25 to 11 and 25 to 12, before losing to the second best team in the province the Winnipeg Attack that dropped them to the Consolation bracket.

They lost their first game in the Consolation bracket to the Ace Volleyball club before rebounding for wins over Interlake and the Bandits.

The Stars ended up finishing 13th out of 24 teams and that was their best placing for club volleyball teams this season.

It was also a good tune up and confidence builder for Nationals coming up in Edmonton the May long weekend.

Blizz Freeze Out Kings in Game 3 Showdown

The Northern Manitoba Blizzard took a 2–1 series lead in their seven-game championship matchup after a 4–2 victory over the Dauphin Kings last night.

Much like Sunday's contest, the game was ultra-competitive from start to finish. Cael Primanti and the Blizz penalty kill unit managed to notch a shorthanded goal late in the second period, giving the Blizz a one-goal lead.

Dauphin's Matthew Thomas responded with a power-play goal just past the second period's midway point, tying things up and sending both teams into the third knotted at one apiece.

Back-to-back goals from Louis-Jacob Beauregard and Miguel Bouvier gave the Blizz a comfortable two-goal cushion in the final frame.

With just under 50 seconds remaining, Thomas struck again for his second of the night, cutting the deficit to one. However, the late goal wasn't enough to spark a comeback. Esteban Cinq-Mars sealed the deal with an empty-netter, locking in the 4–2 final for the Blizz.

This MGEU West Division rivalry heads back north this Friday, with puck drop scheduled for 7:00 p.m. More information on advance ticket purchases is available on the team's official Facebook page.

The Wings take the series 4 games to  2 and the Bombers showed a lot of character and heart fighting back from a 3 to 0 deficit.

Even though the Bombers came up short in their quest for an SJHL Championship,  it was still a very successful season that saw the Bombers jump from 10th spot to second overall by season's end.

They also went on an incredible run that saw them go over 3 months without a regulation loss.

Junior Northstars Claim U-13 Championship

The 2013 Junior Northstars participated in the 3rd annual Northern Little Chiefs  Championship  this past weekend in Thompson  and the team would be crowned champions.

The bracket style tournament saw the Northstars win their first game of the event on Friday but would lose later that evening to the host Little Chiefs . This placed them into the loser side of the bracket where they would need to win all remaining games to advance to the finals.

The team would win all three games on Saturday setting up a rematch with the Little Chiefs  Sunday night. It was a close contest wIth  the Northstars picking up the 4 to 3 win  to claim the championship. Jake Cameron (Thompson) was named the top forward of the tournament and Brody Cooper (Flin Flon) was named tournament MVP.

Congratulations to all the coach's and players on a great effort in Thompson.

The Northstars will now have two weeks off before heading to Winnipeg for the 2nd annual Blades of Steel Championship.

Bomber Season Ends In A Heart Breaker

The Flin Flon Bombers emptied the tank and were one goal away from bringing the series back to Flin Flon for game 7 on Wednesday against the Weyburn Red Wings in their SJHL Semi Final.

Game 6 went down last night at Crescent Point Place in Weyburn and the Bombers got off to a great start when local product Ryder Mucha opened the scoring just 5 minutes into the opening period.

Mucha  was able to locate a loose puck in front of Wing netminder Angelo Zol and flipped a back hander just out of his reach to give the Bombers the important first goal.

Weyburn responded in the second period with a couple of specialty team goals including a powerplay goal from Max Chakrabarti, when he fired a seeing eye shot in front of a screened Matthew Kieper to tie the game.

The Wings Lucas Schmid then picked up a Bomber turn over less than a minute later and went down the ice short handed  and beat Matthew Kieper low stick side to give the Wings their first lead 2 to 1.

The game would stay tied until Bomber  local product Joey Lies wired a rebound over Zol's left shoulder just after a powerplay expired and we were all even at 2.

The rest of regulation solved nothing and we would get overtime for the first time in the series. The way both goalies were playing I thought we might be in for a long overtime session.

I was wrong and the Wings ended things and the series when defenseman Dallen Oxelgren fired a shot from the blue line that was tipped by Josh Sale and beat Matthew Kieper for the overtime winner.

That sent the 1400 plus at Crescent Point Place into a frenzy and the Wings would knock off the Bombers in 6, winning the SJHL Semi Final 4 games to 2.

This will put Weyburn into the SJHL Finals for the first time since 2012 and the first time they have beaten the Bombers in a playoff series since 1985. Good luck to the Wings who will head off to Melfort for the Canterra Seeds Cup starting on Saturday.

Both goalies were simply incredible with Matthew Kieper doing everything he could to get the Bombers back to the Forum for game 7 on Wednesday. He stopped 39 out of 41 and Angelo Zol was equal to the task with 41 saves on 43 shots.

Despite last night's loss it was another good year for the Maroon and White who finished second overall with 38 wins and 81 points and that impressive 26 game unbeaten streak that started October the 30th and went til February the 4th.

One way or another they always seem to make it to the final 4.

Good luck to all the graduating 20 year olds including Keefe Gruener, Leighton Carruthers, Anthony Piccininno, Ryder Ringor, Carter Cormier, Liam Hunks, Matthew Kieper and 4 year Bombers Captain Cole Tanchuk and Kylynn Olafson.

It was great to see Olafson suit up for the last couple of playoff games after a tough year battling injuries.

Congratulations to the coach's, board, volunteers, sponsors and the best fans in the entire SJHL in helping shape this franchise into one of the best places to play Junior Hockey in the country.

Well Done.

Blizzard Await Turnbull Cup Final Opponent

The Northern Manitoba Blizzard are still waiting to find out who they’ll face in the upcoming Turnbull Cup Final. Portage took a crucial Game 5 win this past Saturday, cutting the series deficit to just one game against Dauphin in their best-of-seven matchup.

The two teams face off again tonight at 7:30 p.m. If the Kings win, they’ll officially punch their ticket to the championship series against the Blizzard. However, if the Terriers come out on top, the series will head to a decisive Game 7 on Wednesday — this time on home ice for Portage.

Junior Northstars Head To Thompson

`The 2013 Junior Northstars will be participating in the Northern Little Chiefs championship this weekend in Thompson.

The Junior Northstars will begin action today  against the Cross Lake U13 Islanders.

Once again the Junior Northstars roster consists of players from Flin Flon, The Pas, Thompson and Rankin Inlet.

They kicked off their season last weekend in Portage and even though they went winless the coach's were very happy with how they progressed through out the weekend and the start to the spring hockey season.

Blizzard Sweep Reigning Champs to Punch Ticket to Turnbull Cup Final

The Northern Manitoba Blizzard have officially earned a spot in the Turnbull Cup Finals after defeating the reigning champion Winkler Flyers in the first overtime period of Game Four.

Marlen Edwards recorded his fourth postseason goal just past the midway point of the second period to give the Blizz a one-goal lead. Winkler, however, tied things up late in the third to send the game to overtime.

The Blizz picked up a few penalties in the extra frame and had to rely heavily on goaltender Taye Timmerman and their penalty kill unit to stay alive. Then, after a bobbled exchange by Winkler in the Blizzard’s zone, it was none other than Quincy Supprien who stole the puck and scored a short-handed breakaway goal to seal the win.

The Blizzard’s opponent has yet to be determined. The Dauphin Kings currently hold a 2–1 series lead over Portage, with Game Four set for tonight in Dauphin.

Flin Flon Minor Hockey Will Be Hosting Their AGM

It will take place at the Victoria Inn at the Cambrian room starting at 7pm.

There will also be a chance to ask questions and multiple board positions will be available through elections.

It will be  a great chance to come out and be part of this  beloved sport in our community.

Bombers Stay Alive

With their backs against the wall the Flin Flon Bombers played by far their best game of the SJHL Semi Final , and rallied for a 5 to 1 win last night in Weyburn.

As a result the Flin Flon Bombers will now live to play another game, but still have some work to do as they are down three games to one.

Head Coach and GM Mike Reagan has been preaching that his team needed to get off to a better start and they did that scoring the first goal last night.

One of the players that the Bombers really needed to get going was Keefe Gruener who led his team with 34 goals  in the regular season. Gruener opened up the game mid way through the opening period with his third of the playoffs and the Bombers never looked back.

They would make it 3 to 0 in the second on goals by Carter Cormier (2) and AP Eric Han who scored his first ever SJHL playoff goal. Han led Tisdale in scoring with 53 points this past season in the Saskatchewan U-18 AAA Hockey league and looks like he will be a great player for the Bombers.

Ethan Dekay was the only Red Wing to beat Matthew Kieper late in the second period to get Weyburn within two at 3 to 1. This was Dekay's fourth goal in the last two games.

This was the Bomber's night as they kept pressing and scored two more insurance goals in the third period courtesy of Ryder Ringor with his league leading 8th of the playoffs and Anthony Piccininno scored his second.

Flin Flon also needed a good game out of the SJHL'S top goaltender this past season and Matthew Kieper delivered making 34 saves and a lot of them came at key times.

This is a big win for lots of reasons as it not only keeps the Bomber season alive but they also have confidence that they can score on Angelo Zol.

Heading into last night Zol was 3-0 in the series with a Save % of .975. The Bombers beat him 5 times last night on 37 shots.

The referees did a good job last night letting these two teams decide it 5 on 5 with only four minor penalties being called in the entire game.

This will set the stage for game 5 at the Whitney Forum on Saturday as Bomber fans will once again get a chance to come out and cheer on their team.

Puck drop at 7:30 and will be broadcast on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 7:10 and play by play at 7:30 for Creighton Furniture.

Bombers Are On The Brink

The Flin Flon Bombers are now just  only one loss away from seeing their season come to an end.

After dropping the first two games at the Whitney Forum this past weekend, the series switched venues to Crescent Point Place in Weyburn last night as the Wings kept rolling winning 4 to 1.

Weyburn has taken a commanding three games to none lead out scoring the Bombers 11 to 3 in the three games.

Ethan Dekay had the hot hand for Weyburn last night as he picked up the hat-trick for his first three goals of the playoffs and now has four points in this  series.

Jaxson Ruthven scored the other Wings goal which stood up as the game winner early in the second period. Leighton Carruthers had the lone goal for Flin Flon when he fired a nice shot past Angelo Zol late in the third period.

It was Carruthers second goal of this series and his fifth of the post season. Not bad when you consider he has only played four games.

Flin Flon did out shoot Weyburn 46 to 36, but a lot are coming from the outside and they are having a tough time getting quality chances.

It was one of the few games where specialty teams were not a factor as Weyburn went 0 for 6 and Flin Flon wound up 0 for 4 on the PP.

There are a lot of factors as to why the Bombers are down 3 games to none and you have to certainly give credit to the Wings who are really on a roll.

What stands out to me is the Bombers have had absolutely no momentum in this series and have never had a lead or even been tied. They did have a decent first period last night but still found themselves down a goal after one period.

They need to some how get the first goal tonight and have Weyburn chase them for a change and stay out of the penalty box. An early goal tonight would really help their confidence and may help them get back on track.

Nothing to lose now and they have to go for broke. They have been able to come back from being 3 games down before , including a series with the Battleford Stars a few years back where they lost  the first three and fought  to get it to game 7.

They also dropped the first three games in last year's league final to Melfort only to fight back and get it to 6 games. They say the toughest game to win in a series is the elimination game and the Bombers are hoping that holds true tonight.

Once again  we will take the feed from Weyburn on Country 106 and will provide our own interviews including tonight's pre-game with Bomber Head Coach and GM Mike Reagan at about 7:45.

So make sure you listen in as the Bombers fight to stay alive and get it back to Flin Flon for game 5 on Saturday.

Flin Flon Judo Club Took Part In The Saskatchewan Provincial Championships

The Flin Flon Judo Club sent 6 athletes to compete in the Judo Saskatchewan Provincial Championships on the weekend, held in Moose Jaw. There were over 200 entries in the event. The 6 Flin Flon athletes were registered in 12 divisions, bringing home 12 medals, including 5 gold.

Leading the charge was Jacob Hiebert, who repeated as Provincial Champion for the third year in a row. He won gold in both U12 male middle weight, as well as the Ne-waza (groundwork division). This was an extremely tough division, but Jacob fought through some adversity and proved why he has dominated this division for years.

Noah Morrell managed a break through performance as well, going undefeated on the day and capturing double Gold in both the U12 male heavyweight division and the Ne-waza division.

Jesse Ishaka, competing in his first tournament ever, managed to stun the division going undefeated for gold in the U12 male Ne-waza light heavyweight and also bringing home a bronze in the U12 male light heavyweight stand up division.

Caleb Masson  had the performance of his career bringing home a silver in the U12 male middleweight division, where his only loss was to club mate Jacob Hiebert. He battled all day and had some spectacular throws. He also fought to a bronze medal in the U12 male middleweight Ne-waza division losing again to Jacob Heibert in the final seconds.

Zayne Kawerski also had a great day, bringing home double silver medal in the U14 male light heavyweight division and Ne-waza divisions. Zayne faced a real step up in competition, and was able to hold his own against some really tough competitors.

Katie Assie was the lone female representative from Flin Flon at the Championships, and despite coming in underweight, she fought some very experienced competitors to bring home double Bronze medals in the U12 female middleweight and Ne-waza division.

Having the Provincial Champions in 5 different divisions is a huge feat for the Flin Flon Judo Club. The club managed to finish 7th in the overall provincial standings, finishing ahead of clubs from cities such as North Battleford, Melfort and the University of Regina. Having only sent 6 athletes, and travelling over 800km to compete, really says alot about their club.

Junior Northstars Results From Portage Cup

The Junior Northstars competed in the portage cup this past weekend and despite going winless the coaching staff was encouraged with the teams performance,  and were able to take away a lot of positives from the weekend.

The Northstars would drop their two round robin games on Friday 8-6 to the PV Pilots and 4-1 to the CP redwings.

They would then face the Southeast Avalanche in the quarterfinals were they would lose 5-1 despite outshooting their opponent.

The loss would place them in the consolation final were they would play the CP redwings wings and again had trouble capitalizing on their chances and would lose 5-2.

Overall the team played well and it was a good start to their spring hockey season. The PV Pilots would go on to win the portage cup with a 4-3 (SO) win over the southwest barons.

The Northstars will now head to Thompson this coming weekend to participate in the little Cheifs spring tournament.

Wings Dominate Bombers And Head To Weyburn Up Two

The SJHL Semi Final has not started the way the Flin Flon Bombers wanted it to,  and find themselves down two games to none against the Weyburn Red Wings  after dropping both games at the Whitney Forum on the weekend.

On Friday,  the Wings came out and scored all three of their goals in the opening period courtesy of Cyprus Davis Smith , Blake Betson and Jerome Maharaj.

Flin Flon did play better in the second and third periods  but could only muster one goal on Angelo Zol,  when Ryder Ringor scored his league leading 7th of the playoffs when he scored on  a picture perfect shot early in the second period.

Zol and the Wings shut the door the rest of the way and picked up the 3 to 1 victory. The Bombers did press especially late in the third period with a late powerplay and the goalie pulled to go 6 on 4,  but just couldn't find the back of the net.

Final shots were 40 to 19 for Flin Flon but a lot did come from the perimeter. The Bomber powerplay did struggle as well going 0 for 5 while the Wings were 0 for 2.

On Saturday the Bombers wanted to come out with a much better effort but it was the Wings who once again had the great start and got spotted the first two goals.

Simon Martin and Liam Fitzgerald both took advantage of some early opportunities.

The Wings would score two more on the powerplay with Fitzgerald getting his second of the game and Josh Sale picked up his third of the playoffs to go up 4 to 0.

Flin Flon finally beat Zol late in the game when Leighton Carruthers jammed in a lose puck for his fourth of the playoffs on the powerplay. This was Carruthers first game back in the lineup after he got injured in the opening round against Humboldt in game two.

That is all the offense the Bombers could muster and they ended up losing game two 4 to 1. Matthew Kieper who was presented the SJHL Top Goaltender and League MVP trophies before the game gave up 4 goals on 38 shots.

Kieper played great and held the Bombers in this one, and without him the score could of been much worse.  Flin Flon was heavily  out played for pretty much most of the  game and  this may have been one of the most lopsided games I have seen against Flin Flon in a very  long time.

Angelo Zol didn't have to make a lot of big saves but was good when he had to be stopping 31 of 32. Weyburn got their powerplay going and were 2 for 5 while the Bombers went  1 for 4.

The Wings came in and dominated and full marks for taking both games at the Whitney Forum and will head back to Crescent Point Place up two games to none in the SJHL Semi Final.

Flin Flon may be down but not out and we have seen them rally before although this won't be easy. The Wings are 6 -2 in the playoffs and will have a lot of confidence back in their own barn.

Don't forget to listen to both games from Weyburn Friday and Saturday night on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com beginning with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 7:45 Manitoba time.

Blizzard Take Commanding 2-0 Lead in Semifinal Series Against Winkler Flyers

The Northern Manitoba Blizzard are now up two games in their seven-game semifinal series against the reigning MJHL champions in the Winkler Flyers.

In the first period of Game 1, Kelton Kellerman and Brett Ward fired in back-to-back goals to give the Blizz a two-goal lead. Not long after Ward's power-play goal, Andrew Morton and the Flyers' penalty kill unit capitalized on a shorthanded opportunity, notching a marker to round out the first.

In the opening minutes of the second, Keenan McNeill found the back of the net, setting the score at 3-1 for the Blizz. A few moments later, Brady Craik and the Winkler power play unit orchestrated a strike to narrow the gap to one. The third period eventually arrived, and Hugo Larkin sealed the win with an empty-netter, setting the final score at 4-2.

Game 2 the next day was just as competitive for both sides. After a quiet first period, Keenan McNeill, the Blizz power play unit, and Cael Primanti scored two unanswered goals. Team NorMan carried that 2-0 lead into the third. With just under two and a half minutes left, Brody Beauchemin cut the lead to one, but it was too late to change the outcome. Like in Game 1, the Blizz sealed the win with an empty-netter, this time from Quincy Supprien.

In other MJHL postseason news, the Dauphin Kings are also up two games on the Portage Terriers.

The Blizz are back home this Wednesday and Thursday, with puck drop scheduled for 7:00 p.m. On both nights, our Blizz broadcast will start after bingo. Advance tickets can be purchased with cash at FunkyThreadz.

OCN Storm Clinch KJHL Championship with 7-5 Victory Over Peguis Juniors

The OCN Storm have returned home as KJHL champions after last night's 7-5 win over the Peguis Juniors.

The first period of Game 5 was a back-and-forth affair. Storm forward Hutton Foster was the first player to light up the scoreboard. Terris Jonasson evened the tally shortly after by notching his second postseason point. Moments later, OCN's Cedrick Puffalt and Drew Peters scored back-to-back goals to make it a 3-1 game. However, in the blink of an eye, Peguis' Jeremiah Jacques and Tyrone Meldrum pulled even on the scoreboard with two quick strikes. Jacey Melnyk then stacked up another marker to cap off the period, giving the Storm their third lead.

The second period was no different. In the early minutes, Jeremiah Jacques notched his second goal of the night, once again levelling the scoreboard. A short time later, Keilan Holland and Keestin Danielson added two more, which raised the score to 6-4 OCN. Before the second period ended, Corwin Bear and the Peguis powerplay unit were able to coordinate a netter, making it a one-goal deficit heading into the third.

Only one lamp lighter from Cedrick Puffalt in the third period put the final score at 7-5 for OCN.

The Storm won their first KJHL Championship and did so against one of the most successful clubs in the league's 47-year history. Their final postseason record was 9-2.

Bombers VS Wings Semi Final Preview

For the first time since 2016,  the Flin Flon Bombers will meet the Weyburn Red Wings in the playoffs as the SJHL Semi- Final will begin tonight at the Whitney Forum.

Everybody remembers the moose leg incident from that playoff series  when the Weyburn players tried to leave the ice with the Flin Flon treasure, only to see Brandon Switzer barrell down the ice after it.

A line brawl ensued with multiple suspensions and ejections and the Bombers went on to win the series 4 games to one.

That was then and this is now,  but it certainly is a big moment in Bomber Playoff history. Flin Flon has gone on to the league finals five times since then with the Wings only winning one playoff series since that time.

This should be a great series with two of the best teams set to go head to head.

Cody Mapes who was a finalist for Coach Of The Year has assembled a very good Weyburn  squad that they have been building for the last few seasons.

They are the second best offensive team from the regular season where they scored 218 goals , which was only three fewer than the defending league champion Melfort Mustangs.

They were the fourth best defensive team giving up 166 goals.

Flin Flon was the fourth best offensive team with 207 goals scored  while they were the second best defensive team giving up 131.

Both teams match up well from the crease out. Bomber fans know how good SJHL MVP and Top Goaltender Matthew Kieper is as he was able to carry over from a masterful regular season picking up three shut outs in the 6 game series win over Humboldt.

Kieper had the best numbers amongst SJHL Goalies in the regular season with a GAA of 1.80 and Save % of .935.

Not to be out done is the Wings goalie Angelo Zol , who was magnificent against the Battleford Stars in their opening round series and  had a 2.72 GAA to go along with a .913 Save % and helped the Wings steal game 6.

Zol was so good this past season that Dazza Mitchell was made expendable and traded to Humboldt and he  showed the Bombers what he was capable of in the opening round of the playoffs.

This should be a fun series to watch with some terrific offensive players on both teams as the Bombers had three players in the top 20 overall scorers.

They were Ryder Rinor who was fifth overall (69), Keefe Gruener 7th overall (62) and Koen Senft 19th overall (48).

The Wings had four players in the top 20 including Jerome Maharaj 6th overall (65), Ethan Dekay 9th ( 58), Jaxson Ruthven 15th ( 52) and Max Chakrabarti 17th with 50 points.

Chakrabarti also led all rookies and defensemen in scoring and was lethal on the powerplay with 29 points.

Both teams stack up very well and one of the stats that has intrigued me was how good Weyburn was on the road this year. They were second in road wins with 18 away from Crescent Point Place this season,  and won three games on the road in the opening series against Battleford.

They were also the only team to win two games in Flin Flon this year, so Weyburn is the real deal.

We all know how dominant the Bombers are and have been at the Whitney Forum and it will be interesting to see how Weyburn will be able to handle the hostile crowd. There isn't a louder and more electric building than the Whitney Forum at playoff time.

Don't forget to bring those radios and mobile devices to the Forum tonight as we will have all the action on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com beginning with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 7:10,  and drop of the puck at 7:30 for Creighton Furniture.

OCN Storm Lead 3-1, Blizzard Gear Up for Second-Round Series Against Flyers

Junior Northstars All Set To Kick Off Spring Hockey Season

The 2013 Junior Northstars are all set to begin their spring hockey season.

The roster will once again be filled with players from Flin Flon, The Pas, Thompson and Rankin Inlet and this will mark the third year the team has competed in the spring season and are excited to kick things off this weekend in Portage La Prairie for the Portage Cup.

The Northstars will play their two round robin games on Friday with action beginning at 2:20 pm against the PV Pilots and will then square off against the host Central Plains Red Wings.

After completion of the round robin the teams will be seeded for the playoffs which begin Saturday.

Ryder Ringor Is The Player Of The Month

March was a good month for the Flin Flon Bombers and for Ryder Ringor.

The 20 year old product out of Winnipeg picked up 12 points in the final 6 regular season games and followed that up with a huge opening round of the playoffs against the Humboldt Broncos.

Ringor has been chosen the Victoria Inn Player Of The Month for March.

Ringor finished 5th in regular season scoring with 69 points in 56 games including 28 goals with 8 on the powerplay and 5 short handed. He is leading all point getters in the playoffs with 12 points including 6 goals.

He also has points in 12 straight games as the Bombers prepare for the Weyburn Red Wings in the SJHL Semi- Final which will start this Friday at the Whitney Forum.

Puck drop at 7:30 and will be broadcast on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com.

Bombers Advance To SJHL Semi Final

The Flin Flon Bombers only needed to score one goal once again to take game 6 of the SJHL Quarter Final Series against the Humboldt Broncos.

After a scoreless first period,   second year defenseman Luke Lepper scored the game winner with a beautiful snapshot  just  inside the Humboldt blue line that beat Dazza Mitchell over his right shoulder.

That was all the offense that  Flin Flon would need who ended up taking game 6 by a score of 5 to 0 and eliminate Humboldt 4 games to two.

Joey Lies would score his first of the series just two minutes later,  when he grabbed a puck in the corner and walked out front to beat Dazza Mitchell 5 hole to put the Bombers up 2 to 0 after two.

Flin Flon got a big insurance goal early in the third when Ryder Ringor scored his series leading 6th of the playoffs on a nice one timer on the powerplay.

Landon Alexander and Reid  Arberry who scored his first of the playoffs rounded out the scoring.

Not only do the Bombers win the series 4 games to 2 but they out scored the Broncos 28 to 9 with Matthew Kieper picking up three shut-outs, including two back to back.

Final shots last night were 50 to 23 for the Bombers who fired a 174 shots at the Broncos at the three games at the Elgar Petersen Arena.

As the series went on I think the Broncos just ran out of gas, but I tip my hat to them on their spirit and they have always been a first class organization.

Good luck to all their graduating players and I know Head Coach Brayden Klimosko will have them back in the mix next season.

Flin Flon will now move on to the final 4, The SJHL Semi Finals against the Weyburn Red Wings who advanced,  after beating the Battlefords 4 games to 2 including a hard fought 2 to 1 series clincher last night.

The Bombers went 1-2-1 against the Wings in the regular season with the majority of the games coming early in the season before the Bomber roster was set.

The series will open up at the Whitney Forum this Friday and Saturday with puck drop both nights at 7:30 and broadcast on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com.
