Cole McCaig Signs Extension With Brooks

Congratulations to former Flin Flon Bombers player and Assistant Coach Cole McCaig on signing a contract extension with the BCHL Champions Brooks Bandits.

The Bandits are fresh off another League Championship after knocking off the Nanaimo Clippers in 5 games to claim the BCHL Cup and are now  back to back Champions.

McCaig who was born in Flin Flon and grew up in Brandon joined the Bandits this past season after spending the past 7 seasons in Flin Flon as an Assistant Coach and was also appointed the role of Assistant General Manager in the 2021-22 season.

Prior to that, McCaig had a successful playing career starting with the Bombers in 2011 and suiting up for 169 games in the better part of three seasons,  before finishing his Junior career with the Way- Way Wolverines of the MJHL in 2014.

Cole's playing career wasn't done as he was able to make the jump to Marian University in Indianapolis Indiana in the NCAA Div 3.

McCaig suited up for Marian for four seasons between 2014 and 18 and was named an Assistant Captain in his final season before getting into coaching and scouting.

The Bandits have extended Cole for two more seasons and have added the role of Head Of Player Development to go along with being an Assistant Coach.

McCaig had this to say about being resigned on the Brooks Bandits website at brooksbandits.net. “I am extremely grateful for all the support shown to me from the Bandits Board of Directors, Wayne Labrie and Dakota Mason. It’s a great opportunity to continue my development as a coach with an elite team in a great league like the BCHL.”

Not much of a summer off for Cole,  as he is currently in Prague in the Czech Republic promoting the BCHL on behalf of the league.

I think it is safe to say that Cole has a bright future and will be involved in hockey for a very long time.

Meet The New Golf Pro

Another summer means another wonderful  season for the Phantom Lake Golf Club in Northern Saskatchewan.

People have been teeing off at one of the most unique golf  courses in North America for the better part of 74 years as it opened up officially in 1952.

This year there will be a new face in the Pro-Shop and on the course in new Pro Dennis Bradley.

Dennis comes to the North with quite the resume and over 35 years in the golf business as a Head Pro. The Phantom Lake Golf Club Executive is very happy to have him as he will fill a big void and be the first Pro they have hired in a number of years.

Dennis grew up in Calgary and has worked at a lot of big golf courses in his career including Copper Point in Invermere British Columbia, Grand Prairie Alberta, Trail BC  and Englewood Golf and Country Club in Calgary .

Among Bradley’s accomplishments include Golf Teacher Of The Year from 2018 to 2024 at Copper Point in Invermere BC, in the Kootenay Region. He was also awarded the 2021 Davie Black Professional Award for work done for the Canadian Golf Community voted on by his peers. He continues to be actively involved as a Coach for Special Olympics.

Dennis Loves the game, and his favorite part is being able to teach. “ I have had the opportunity to work with many different people at lots of different skill levels and ages. The biggest misconception is you have to hit the ball low to get it to go further. Nothing could be further from the truth.  I teach golfers to get the ball in the air and theoretically that will make the ball go further. I also find that many people can lower their score by changing their stance and I feel I can take at least 5 or 6 strokes off anyone’s game if they are willing to learn and try some of the things that I will teach.”

Dennis would love to see you and you can call him for a lesson anytime.

Bradley can also fit you for a set of clubs and he handles Titleist, Taylor Made, Ping, Cobra, Calloway and Scotty Cameron Putters. He will match all Golf Town prices. He has already re-vamped the Pro Shop and it is worth a visit, and  it looks great.

Dennis is enjoying his time in the North and loves the outline of the unique course at Phantom Lake. “ Well it’s a great golf course and it isn’t overly long , so it’s not as long as some of the new traditional ones that are super long. It is long enough and it is very  accurate and the rough is really penal. If you hit it offline you will have to hit the ball off the rocks and  have to chip it out. I would love to see lots of  people come out and enjoy this great golf course. It is always fun and it is a family affair where you can play from the age of 8 to 80 and play with your Grandma, Grandpa, Grand Kids and it is something you can do for the rest of your life with your family.”

This great game has also allowed Bradley to tee off with some of the biggest names in the business including Jordan Speeth, Tony Finau, Rickie Fowler, John Daly, Jim Kelly and Steve Stricker.

Drop on by and meet John and check out the fully stocked Pro Shop, book a lesson, grab a membership or stop by for a chat and a coffee.

It will be an opportunity to meet a true gentleman of the game and enjoy one of the best 9 hole golf courses in Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
